Information from Environment Roads and Facilities - CCBC - HOUSEHOLD RECYCLING CENTRES AND BULKY WASTE (Saesneg yn unig ar gael)

We are pleased to be able to reopen the Household Recycling Centres at Mochdre and Abergele from Tuesday 26 May. With the need for social distancing and to manage the demand from residents, there are some changes to the way the Household Recycling Centres will be running:

  • Visits to the Household Recycling Centres are by appointment only
  • Visits are restricted to cars (and vans with permits) only. No trailers will be allowed on site.
  • Each household is allowed one visit, to make sure that everyone who wants to use the centres can get an appointment.
  • The sites cannot accept carpet or textiles (clothes) at the moment
  • To help prevent delays and reduce contact at payment machines, the Council is waiving some of the usual charges for non-household waste. Residents will not be charged for up to 3 bags of rubble, soil or wood.

Although lockdown restrictions have been eased, we should still only make essential journeys. We’re encouraging residents to think about using our usual kerbside collections, green waste collection or bulky waste collection instead, before they book an appointment. Residents can book an appointment from Thursday 21 May 2020 on our website or by calling the Advice Team on 01492 575337. There are appointments available every day at each site. Appointments are available for the next 4 weeks. Bulky waste collections will restart on Monday 1 June, with our partner Crest. Residents can book their collections from Thursday 21 May. We are reviewing the rural mobile recycling centres to see how we could reopen these safely. We hope the attached Frequently Asked Questions will help you answer any questions from your residents.

COVID-19 – Community Resilience Sub Group - recognising/reporting SCAMS (Saesneg yn unig ar gael)

Please share to any groups or individuals you know. The free eLearning course is a good free resource that you can direct all your Volunteers too.

Recognising and reporting scams

  • Coronavirus has led to an increase in scams and false offers of help. Common scams include:
o cold calling homes and offering to help those self-isolating with shopping
o fundraising, door to door or online, for donations to develop a covid-19 vaccine
o scam emails offering fake products such as anti-bacterial gels or a cure for coronavirus.

  • Make all your volunteers aware of current scams.

  • Tell volunteers to remind those they are helping not to give out credit or debit card details, personal identification numbers or passwords.

  • Help your volunteer show who they are by providing them with an email or text message with your group or organisation’s details, and a contact telephone number.

  • Tell your volunteers to report anything suspicious regarding fraudulent activity to your organisation or the person leading volunteers.

  • You or your volunteers should report any concerns to Action Fraud 0300 123 2040.

  • If your charity or organisation is currently under cyber-attack and data is potentially at risk call the above number.
  • Further help & advise can be found at the Action Fraud Website www.actionfraud.police.uk

For more information to safeguard against scams, visit the National Trading Standards website.

Their campaign Friends Against Scams will help your volunteers to recognise scams and help those they are helping to be aware of them. They also offer a free eLearning course.
